HPLC Testing Explained for Peptide Research
High-performance liquid chromatography separates components as they pass through a column under controlled conditions.
What a chromatogram shows
A chromatogram plots detector response against time. Peaks represent signals detected during the run; retention time and peak shape are interpreted in the context of the method, reference material, and instrument conditions.
What an area percentage means
Area normalization can describe the relative detector response assigned to reported peaks. It is not automatically the same thing as a complete identity or safety determination. Read the method, limits, and notes on the report.
Questions for a COA
- Is the product and lot clearly identified?
- Is the method or column information provided?
- Are the reported peaks and calculation basis explained?
- Can the report be traced to the original laboratory document?
