Mass Spectrometry and Peptide Analysis
Mass spectrometry measures ions by mass-to-charge ratio and can support peptide identity characterization when used with an appropriate method.
Identity versus purity
A mass spectrum can provide evidence related to molecular mass or ion pattern. It does not automatically describe every component in a sample or replace other analytical methods.
Read the method notes
Interpretation depends on ionization mode, instrument configuration, calibration, sample preparation, and the reported acceptance criteria. A useful report identifies the sample and method clearly.
Pairing methods
Laboratories may use chromatography and mass spectrometry together because separation and mass-based detection answer related but different analytical questions.
